How to Prep/How to Recover: 20 miler

One of the best things about long runs…
CARB-loading! Best place to do that is Texas Roadhouse.
Diz and I met up with Dean and Jess and their kids, Peyton and Addy.
(look at that CUTE face!)
She wanted nothing to do with me though… or Dizzle either. She only looked at me ’cause I was wearing a chunky watch that had lots of dangles and made noise. πŸ™‚
Pretty sure I ate more than my fair share of rolls with honey butter. Completely polished off my plate of pulled pork, bbq chicken, and a baked potato. and a salad. and some of diz’s fries, too.
After dinner, we came home and I started to get organized.
Β I pulled out my clothes.Β (I know… I’m a tad bitΒ odd, and OCD, but don’t judge… it’s rude!)
got my ipod all set with new music, charged my garmin, got my water belt filled with energy gels, and finally went to bed.
My alarm went off way too early. I felt like I had just laid my head on the pillow when my alarm went off. Hit snooze way too many times and finally got up. I had major nervous belly and wasn’t able to go potty. :/
(TMI?? just wait… the story gets even better)

Joshie, Momma, Me, Rachelle, Niccole, Holly,Β & Steph
We headed up HobbleCreek Canyon (L fork) and of course had to take a picture!
We were all getting set up, turning watches on, getting water belts adjusted, gloves on, etc…
we got to have a little teaching moment on how to turn the light on our Garmins… LOL. Steph and Niccole didn’t know that they lit up. πŸ™‚
The run actually went really well. Started off at a decent pace… and quickly realized around mile 4Β that I was going to have to use the little girls room… only issue is that… there wasn’t one until the golf course (which would be around mile 7). Any runner out there knows how miserable it is to have to *go* and not have a bathroom available. Sometimes a girl’s gotta do what she’s gotta do. (I’ll let you put 2 and 2 together…(TMI, right?!) let’s just say I “lost” a glove). Thank goodness my Momma was with me… when I was taking care of my business and getting ready to start running again, she pointed out that there was some weird animal-ish sounds coming from the side of the mountain… sounded like a horse to me… she thinks it was a bear… We both made it out alive, so all is well. πŸ™‚

I never rarely have negative splits. But I’m pretty stoked that I kept sub 9:00 miles for miles 2-11, and then kicked butt on the last mile and dropped back to a 9:07 pace and finished strong. Julia and Rochelle drove by me on the last mile and it was perfect encouragement for me to push hard & dig deep. πŸ™‚
(P.S. girls… my Mom is bummed she didn’t get to meet you…)
HUGE, HUGE, HUGE GOLD star goes out to Sundance for getting up before dawn and driving us all up the canyon! I really am a lucky wife. I have a supportive husband who is willing to help us out and drive us up the canyon and then go and drop waters for us along the route, too.
Steph and Holly dropped off some treats for us HIM!

He was super excited when he got home from the gym! πŸ™‚ Thanks girls!
Once I got all showered and purty… it was time to eat!
Spinach salad with apples, tomatoes, turkey and some new Huckleberry Vinagrette dressing. Pretty good.
yes… that’s a huge container… I eat A LOT of salad. πŸ™‚ I ran 20 miles. I needed food!
After I ate I drove up to the Gun Club in Spanish Fork to watch my Momma finis
h up her ATA shoot. She did pretty good.Β It was fun to watch her and some of the other shooters. My hell, they make it look SO easy!
Convinced my Mom that we HAD to go to Yogurtland. (it really wasn’t all that hard to convince her…)
Coconut & PB & Chocolate Coconut fro yo with lots of fruit, capn’ crunch, coconut and white chocolate chips… HEAVENLY!
Then to add to the heavenly part of recovery… we went and got pedicures!

There is NOTHIN’ better than having someone rub your sore, achy feet and legs after soaking in a hot bath. I almost offered the nail tech $5 to keep massaging my feet. Worth every penny!
Donuts + yummy spinach salad + Yogurtland w/Momma + Pedicure w/Momma =
BEST WAY TO RECOVER FROM A 20 MILER!
