new friend and a new workout

I failed to mention that I met a new friend over the weekend. 🙂
Kara from Mile High Maven was visiting in Utah and
we decided to meet up at Yogurtland on Saturday afternoon.
We were at Yogurtland for 3.5 hours!
we completely lost track of time.
we were chatting about running, life, boys, running, running, and running.
the only thing we forgot to do was get a picture together!
another topic of conversation was CrossFit.
Kara was telling me about this awesome workout program called CrossFit.
Crazy, high intensity, interval training.
You lose weight, get strong, become a powerhouse.
and I was totally intrigued…
So what exactly is CrossFit?
CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.
 

now, while I am not any of those things… I AM a runner.
and I want to be a better runner! I want to be a better athlete all around.
I have been doing a lot of reading about running and strength training.
I know I have no upper body strength and ZERO core strength.
I may have strong legs, but after dealing with my achilles tendonitis again this year,
I figure if I start strength training now, I can become a better runner and hopefully
kick ass at Ogden next year and get my sub 4:00 marathon.
I asked a few friends about it, including Megan, and everyone I talked to had nothing but positive things to say about it.
so I did some research
and found a CrossFit gym in Orem called Viking CrossFit.
And Diz and I are going tomorrow night for a consult/workout!!
Well… I’m hoping Diz comes with me.
I think I’m a little more excited about it than he is.
Here’s what Viking CrossFit had to say about their training…
We teach core strengthening exercises and functional movements; meaning movements you use in your everyday life such as lifting, pushing, pulling, etc.  We teach you how to do them safely and effectively.  We do body weight exercises such as squats, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and use equipment including kettlebells, medicine balls, and rowing machines.  Workouts are done at high intensity for metabolic conditioning.  The workouts are always varied which keeps it exciting and new each time you come.
I am super excited.
I’m pretty sure I’m gonna love it.
I love to run.
and I so badly want to be a BETTER, STRONGER runner.
BRING. IT. ON.
