Diz does CrossFit

Dizzle gave me the best present tonight.

He started his on-ramp classes at Elevated CrossFit!
He agreed to start CrossFit during the Whole Life Challenge and I wanted him to start the on-ramp classes before the challenge started so he’d have an idea of what he was in for.

Tonight he learned about the basics of CrossFit, the CrossFit Hierarchy, and a few of the lifts.
Then it was time for his first WOD.

in the middle of his squats

I must admit… his push ups are pretty bad ass

and… he can do strict pull ups!

he’s only in the on-ramp stage and already showing me up. 😉

He finished the baseline WOD in 6:36.
a great time for a newb!

Diz then proceeded to tell me he had plans of beating all my PRs!
I told him it wasn’t about competing against each other and Tyson nearly doubled over from laughter.

so what… I’m a little competitive.
OK… a LOT competitive.

question for you guys!!

do you do CrossFit with your spouse/significant other?
if not, do you wish they would?

How fun! I wish the hubby and I lived closer to a box and could do the workouts together, but as you said, I am a teeny tiny competitive and it could get crazy! The Whole Life Challenge sounds great!

haha! A little competition is great. I’m just really excited he wants to do it. If last night’s WOD was any indication, he’s gonna do so well. 🙂

He did great – good for him! I still have not convinced my husband to try it. He knows it will be a good workout, but he has had a bad back for so long that he is scared of hurting himself. I keep telling him he strength moves will probably strengthen his muscles and HELP his back….

He says soon…so I have my fingers crossed!

I hope he tries it soon. **fingers crossed for you** My husband’s family has a history of bad backs so I’m glad he’s active enough that he’ll hopefully not succumb to the “bad back” family gene!

    Welcome to CrossFit, Diz!

My husband actually convinced me to do crossfit with him two years ago. He spent so much time there that I pretty much had no choice but to join if I ever wanted to see him. It has brought us so much closer because we can bond over tough WODs and get excited about each other’s quests for PRs. Now, our two young children crossfit with us, too. It has been the absolute best thing to ever happen to my family.

That is great!! I’m single, but I’m already planning long training runs, pull up competitions, early morning races etc….although hopefully he will always win in the weight room; I intend to give him a run for his money!! 🙂

This is so cool! I think it would be so much fun to do that with my hubby. Our kids are almost to the point that we could leave them unsupervised. Almost. I wish there was a cross fit gym around here. I think I would really like it. And I don’t feel like I know enough to just do it properly on my own in the gym. Can you tell that I’m a tiny bit jealous?!!

Jen you would love it! I just checked the CrossFit affiliate map (because I’m that obsessed) and the closest gyms to you are in Ogden or Logan. Which… is really not that close for a gym – especially when you’re leaving kids at home. There are some bodyweight workouts that you could do at the gym and not have to worry too much about form (like sit ups, push ups, pull ups, burpees) – but I love all the lifts and technical movements (because I’m a glutton for punishment).

p.s. We need to plan a date. I haven’t seen you in forever!

I agree! Maybe you can teach me some stuff while we’re at it! And we should definitely do a trail run sometime! You would love these ones up here that I’ve discovered.
Oh and I can’t do a single full pull up. What do you do about that? Is there an assisted pull up machine or do you do another exercise.
I will admit too that I did your 100 double unders challenge. It was awesome!

Ash I love this! I think you and I share the same competetive nature! I’d be pist if Ryan beat all of my PR’s so cool you and Diz are so into this together! I think I am slowly getting there with Ry can’t wait to start up again!

LOL. I hope Diz beats some of my PRs. When it comes to all the major lifts – he better be able to lift more than me! 😉 But on some of the other WODs, we can compete. lol.

After you’ve recovered with Krew – you & Ryan should look into joining a CrossFit gym. You guys would love it!

I’m so excited for you that Diz has joined in!! My husband and I started crossfitting together and it makes the experience that much better. Even though I don’t get to do a lot of the same WODs as him (due to my work/travel schedule) we always come together at 7am via the phone and chat about our workouts. It’s that extra motivation to get in the box and work hard. When we can workout together it’s awesome to hear his voice from across the room yelling “Go Meg!” it’s all about the encouragement, and a little about the competition. I’m a better runner than he is, but he’s stronger and has better form than me in a lot of CF movements. It brings us to an understanding that there are things that he’s good at and things that I’m good at and that we both need to encourage each other to “get our goats” and excel and progress at our own paces but also teach each other the methods that have helped us along the way.

That’s awesome. i hope that’s the kind of experience we’ll have with it. I’ve gone with him for his on ramp classes, and I’ll go with him tonight. But when it comes to regular WODs, we may not be able to keep the same schedule. But I know all the guys at my gym will make him feel welcome, so I’m really excited about that. And when we can workout together, I know we’ll throw out encouraging comments to each other (he better!! lol).
